Why We Started

Most Kids Are Never Taught Contest Thinking

We're a team of high school students who competed in these contests ourselves — and we noticed two things. Most elementary students are never shown what contest math actually feels like. And when coaching exists, the cost of prep programs puts it out of reach for many families.

So we built the program we wish we'd had: free, peer-led, and focused on how to think — the logic patterns, shortcuts, and core thinking styles that make hard problems click.

  • Free coaching, always. Our coaching and lesson plans cost nothing — families only pay each contest's own registration fee. Talent is everywhere; opportunity should be too.
  • Curiosity over cramming. We don't teach test tricks. We teach students how to think — contest scores are a side effect, not the goal.
  • Students teaching students. Our coaches just lived it. They know which problems trip 5th graders up — because they were tripped up by them.
  • Adults in our corner. Teachers and parent advisors review our curriculum and oversee safety, so families can trust every session.

Did Math Contests as a Kid? Pay It Forward.

If you're a high schooler who's done Noetic, MOEMS, or Math Kangaroo — or you've never competed but you're strong in math — we'll train you to coach. Tell us your availability and we'll match you to a session at Weibel or Warm Springs.

Who we're looking for

High school students who enjoy math and working with younger kids. Contest experience (Noetic, MOEMS, Math Kangaroo, AMC 8) is a big plus — but "none yet, I'm just strong in math" is literally an option on the form. We also need help with curriculum writing, scheduling, and operations.

The sign-up takes two minutes: your grade & school, contests you've done, and your availability. Questions? There's an "anything else you want to share?" box on the form — ask away — we reply to every submission within a few days.

How much does it cost?
Our coaching and lesson plans are 100% free — we started this program because STEM coaching can be costly, and we never want cost to be the reason a kid doesn't compete. The only cost is each contest's official registration fee, which is set by Noetic, MOEMS, or Math Kangaroo (not by us) and paid directly by families when their child registers to compete.
Where and when are the classes?
Classes are in person at Weibel and Warm Springs Elementary schools in Fremont, CA. When you sign up, we'll follow up with the current schedule for your grade and track.
My child has never done a math contest. Can they still join?
Yes — that's exactly who we built this for. Noetic is a friendly first contest, and our Math Foundations track (K–5) is the on-ramp if your child is starting from zero. Our coaches started where your child is now.
Who teaches the sessions?
High school students who recently competed in these same contests. They are trained, vetted, and supported by an adult advisory board of teachers and parents that reviews curriculum and oversees safety.
When does the Math Kangaroo track start?
January 2027, for grades 2–5. Sign up now and we'll reserve a spot and contact you before kickoff. Noetic & MOEMS Tournament Prep and Math Foundations are enrolling now.
What standards does the Math Foundations track follow?
Our content follows Common Core Standards, and we mix in competition-style problems to build real math fluency beyond the textbook.
I'm a high schooler — do I need contest experience to coach?
No. Contest experience helps, but "none yet, I'm strong in math" is an option on the coach sign-up form. We provide training, materials, and mentorship to turn you into a confident coach — and you earn verified volunteer hours.
I have more questions — where can I ask them?
Drop your question in the sign-up form — the student form for families, or the volunteer coach form for high schoolers. We read every response and will follow up within a few days.
